It’s always interesting to me to add the publisher’s details to my posts. There are many times that I look at their descriptions and wonder if I’ve read the same book they’re describing. This book is another of those cases. Of course, everyone reads a book through their own lens of experience and will not interpret everything the same way. It just seems to me that they are making Salander out to be a bit more of a solo vigilante than I read her as being in this final book of the Millennium trilogy. (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest)

The story was a great ending to the series and I really enjoyed listening to it. I did not find it to be nearly as suspenseful as the previous two books, however. While reading the other two books I was often not sure if things would be turning out okay for the characters. There was only one point in this book where I wasn’t sure if someone would make it, and the feeling was not strong. I was able to put the book aside for about a week right at that point in the story and did not feel overly compelled to listen to it to make sure this person would be okay. It also seemed to me that when things went wrong they were resolved very quickly without too many bad consequences. Any time the “bad guys” made a play the “good guys” caught them very quickly and adjusted their actions to deal with it. I don’t think the first books were like that. It was still a great book and I wouldn’t want my little piddling complaints to make you think this book is not worth reading. The trilogy was enjoyable and it makes me sad to think that there will be no more books from Larsson.

Publisher’s Summary:

The stunning third and final novel in Stieg Larsson’s internationally best-selling trilogy

Lisbeth Salander—the heart of Larsson’s two previous novels—lies in critical condition, a bullet wound to her head, in the intensive care unit of a Swedish city hospital. She’s fighting for her life in more ways than one: if and when she recovers, she’ll be taken back to Stockholm to stand trial for three murders. With the help of her friend, journalist Mikael Blomkvist, she will not only have to prove her innocence, but also identify and denounce those in authority who have allowed the vulnerable, like herself, to suffer abuse and violence. And, on her own, she will plot revenge—against the man who tried to kill her, and the corrupt government institutions that very nearly destroyed her life.

Once upon a time, she was a victim. Now Salander is fighting back.
