Wear the Lilac

Anyone who has read extensively in Terry Pratchett’s works will recognize the phrase “wear the lilac” from his 2003 novel Night Watch. They’ll also remember that May 25th is the day to wear the lilac. After Pratchett’s diagnosis of early onset Alzheimer’s, he made a large donation towards Alzheimer’s research. Now fans are trying to “Match it for Pratchett” and part of that is selling silk lilacs and beginning to use them as an Alzheimer’s awareness campaign, specifically on May 25th each year.

Also as an interesting aside, it’s also Towel Day in honor of the late Douglas Adams.

A couple of my favorite authors. I may need to find a lilac colored towel!
