Lessons I Learned in the Dark by Jennifer Rothschild

Non-fiction: Christianity. Paperback from Multnomah. Published in 2002. 224 pages. Purchased from Amazon.com.

lessonsdark.jpgThis was our last book club book. With all due respect to Mrs. Rothschild who is living her life very well despite being blind, (and who is apparently a very dynamic speaker,) this book just fell flat as far as I was concerned. She seemed a bit Pollyanna-ish about the whole business, used old illustrations, didn’t really say anything new (or anything old in a new way), and could have benefited from a bit of editing. She has a cute sense of humor that came out occasionally, and I enjoyed a couple of laughs, but felt she underused that talent in her writing. I’m afraid the book reminded me why it is that I generally do not like to read devotional type books that are aimed specifically at women.

Publisher’s Summary:
At the age of fifteen, Jennifer Rothschild confronted two unshakable realities: Blindness is inevitable … and God is enough. Now this popular author, speaker, and recording artist offers poignant lessons that illuminate a path to freedom and fulfillment. With warmth, humor, and insight,Jennifer shares the guiding principles she walks by — and shows you how to walk forward by faith into God’s marvelous light.
